You’re watching skateboarders and think, “That’s looks so easy, dude.”
Seems the only thing you need to do is push-off with one foot, then you maintain your balance. Of course surfing looks like it should be pretty easy too–all you have to do is stand up! But if you try it, you’ll immediately discover skateboarding only “looks” easy. You’ll need to practice and it takes skill to do all the cool expert tricks. If you are just starting out, here are a few hints and tips that you can use to speed up your learning process. If you fall to much and get tired, you can always relax, use your nokia 5230 or nokia 5800 for the rest of the day and try again the next day.

It’ll take a bit of practice to discover the best foot in front and back. Forget about if you’re right or left-handed. Doesn’t matter like batting in baseball. You’ll need to determine which leg is dominant. How do you approach things? Think back – when you kick a ball, which side do you do it with? With which foot do you usually start walking up a staircase? Which leg/foot do you always use to catch yourself if you ever start to fall? Your answer to those questions is your dominant leg, and it usually stays toward the rear of the board. The important thing is you’ll use your stronger leg, and it doesn’t have anything to do with direction you prefer to be looking.
Start with an inexpensive but very durable skateboard. The very best skateboards are very expensive. You are so expensive you may be hesitant to take them out and use them. And that’s why you want a newbie board. They have strong wheels and are thicker. They aren’t fancy but they are durable and will be able to stand up to the beating that beginning skateboarders usually give them. ABEC skateboards are the way to go because they’re more newbie friendly. But do not give up, the sport is amazing, you can always use electronics, like your nokia e71 in the city, now pay attention to your sport.
But stopping yourself can be trickier. When you are just beginning, you might have better luck simply dragging your foot to slow you down. But you can practice doing the opposite of pushing-off, take smallish steps to decrease speed. This applies an opposite, braking force in the opposite direction.
It’s a bit hard on the feet, but it works. In time, with practice, you can drag the rear of the board and stop yourself. Important note: tail grinding is not a good idea if you are going fast.

This doesn’t need to be hard, but it will take some time to get some proficiency with. Hey, you’ll learn it. Patience and no worries! But it is really important to get the basics down before moving ahead. People trying to go beyond their capabilites are the ones who get injured. Keep doing it, you could be better than Tony Hawk.
